Receives a lot of attention as a rare dancer seeking the edge of the body in Butoh. Studied under Tatsumi HIJIKATA in ’69. Participated in the initiation of DAIRAKUDAKAN in ’72. Performed “Last Paradise – Gate Far Away” in Paris in ’78, which was a trigger for butoh to be recognized as Butoh of the world. From ’00 actively danced “Edge” series particularly in Europe and South America. In ’03, established Ko & Edge Co., released “Bibou no Aozora” which was highly acclaimed by many critics as a work to explore a new butoh. In ’06, performed “Quick Silver” in Venice Biennale. Is active as an teacher at Impulse Tanz (Vienna), Angers National Center of Contemporary Dance (CNDC), and others as well.

Sylvain Prunenec studied classic danse at the Conservatoire National SupÈrieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, and learnt contemporary danse with Ruth Barns.
As a dancer he collaborated with french choreographers - Odile Duboc, Dominique Bagouet, HervÈ Robbe, Boris Charmatz, and the american choreographers Trisha Brown and Deborah Hai.
For several years Sylvain Prunenec has been creating his own pieces, among them†: “La Finale” with the collaboration of FranÁoise Rivalland, percussionist, presented at IRCAM Paris in 2002. “Fronde Ethiopia”at Montpellierdanse Festival in 2002. With Frèdèric Bigot, also known as Electronicat, he puts up two pieces dealing with the dismembered body : “Effroi” solo in 2003 and “Redoux” for six dancers in 2004. Since 2000 he has been weaving links with African artists, the Ethiopian dance company Adugna, and Studios Kabako, Faustin Linyekula’s Congolese company. Together they created "Si c'est un nëgre, autoportrait" at the Avignon Theater Festival (2003) and developed a project between Ethiopia, Congo and France entitled “Kin-Addis / Chantiers chorègraphiques”(2004-2005).
His last creation “About You” is based on the fragmentation of the mouvement and the sharing of these framents between four dancers who try to recover the cohÈsion of the mouvement and of their presence.“About You” was presented at the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris 2008.

Young-Doo`s dance incorporates the beautifully powerful dance method and concept of the east, with the intricate and detailed movements of the west. Founder of Doo Dance Theater, Young –Doo has based himself in Korea, while actively performing worldwide. In 2004 he burst onto the Asian dance scene at the Little Asia Network. His accomplishments abroad include `Yokohama Dance Collection, Solo and Duo Competition` winner, received the `French National Distinction Award` and subsequently began studying at the Toluse Choreograph Center. Young-Doo is a choreographer who is currently driving the creative dance scene in Korea. He visited Japan often for Aoyama Dance Biennale (Tokyo) in ’06, Asia Contemporary Dance Now!(Fukuoka) in ’08, and etc.

Nuno Bizarro (Lisbon,1964) begins his dance studies in Lisbon, mainly on contemporary and improvisation technics and has met since then and in different places, Marta Danoso, Charles Atlas, Simone Forti, Howard Sonnenklar, Steve Paxton, Lance Gries, Dieter Heitkamp, Mark Tompkins, Lisa Nelson. Since 1990 he takes part in several pieces of Jo„o Fiadeiro with whom he creates Re.Al and the LABs- an informal showcase of multidisciplinary events. Later he works in different dance pieces of Vera Mantero. In Belgium, Germany and France, where he lives now, he joins the work of Xavier Le Roy, Boris Charmatz, Christine De Smedt, Meg Stuart, Jennifer Lacey, Mathilde Monnier, Rachid Ouramdane, Heritier. He creats Revolver with Isabelle Schad. He colaborates in different pieces and projects of Emmanuelle Huynh.

A genius of the Hong Kong contemporary dance world. Featuring on witty and ironic dances, he keeps positioning the dancing “body” in the context of modern society, science, and art from a critical perspective. He studied Western Painting and Chinese Music at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. In ’00 he was invited to various famous festivals such as Lyon Dance Biennale, Big Turin, and sprung into fame. In ’02 and ’05, he, in commission of the Hong Kong Arts Festival, released dance works in collaboration with Asian artists including Tadasu TAKAMINE, Mugiyono Kasido (Indonesia), and Takayuki FUJIMOTO (dumb type), which aroused much comment.

Art Director of the Centre Nationale de Dance Contemporaire at Caen. Presides over, with his partner Ella FATTOUMI, the Compagnie-FATTOUMI-LAMOUREUX, which enjoys a high reputation as a symbol of the dance of the ‘90’s. In ’90, "HUSAIS" was awarded with a prize in the Rencontres Choregraphiques Internationales de Seine-Saint-Denis. Since then, the company has released one new piece after another, been invited to the Avignon Theater Festival, the Lyon Biennale and others, performed very widely throughout Europe, Africa and America. In ’94, it gave a workshop to the Batsheva Dance Company in Israel. In ’99, LAMOUREUX stayed at Villa KUJOYAMA as an artist sent by the French Government. In ’04, he created a piece for young dancers in the coaching project organized at Kyoto Art Center. Since ’05, he has been Director of the Centre Nationale de Dance Contemporaire at Caen. His presence at this year’s Workshop Festival has long been awaited since ’97-’99.

C-3 KYOMI ICHIDA+ THOMAS DUCHATEIET

Both actively danced at the Wuppertal led by Pina Bausch, playing a role in many pieces such as “Le Sacre du Printemps”, “Kontacthof”, “Palermo, Palermo”. In ’95, DUCHATELET set up his own company in France. In ’98 ICHIDA joined his company. Both have worked together as dance instructors, rehearsal directors, and dancers. They are scheduled to give a performance in the Kobe Art Village Center Kobe and the Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse this May.

Preside over Monochrome Circus. Interested in communication through the body. Directed their own company and many different projects, and put through the Contact Improvisation and etc. Their pieces of work have been performed in 23 cities of 13 countries. Their recent works include a duet “Water House” danced on a 90cm x 90cm table, “Monster” based on a drama written by Agota Kristof, and the second table piece “Edge/KIZAHASHI”. All have been repeatedly performed in various cities. They broaden and deepen “contact” as a “reality” of dialogue between the bodies, a “functionality” of intersection of imagination and creativity, and a “venue” for the both to interlace. SAKAMOTO was granted from Kyoto city as young special artist in 2001.

There’s no way to resist the impulse to move in his enormous energetic class. Azpillaga’s background in dance studies covers Basque folk, Classic ballet, Jazz, Modern and Contemporary dance. His experiences as a professional dancer in prestigious dance companies include Ultima Vez/W. Vandekeybus, Mathilde Monnier, Bocanada Danza, National Ballet Company of Spain. Based in Brussels serving as a choreographic assistant for Vandekeybus, he also teaches lessons for Ultima Vez, Need Co., Charlesroi/Danses, as well as leading workshops around Europe. He has worked on creations of Vandekeybus, “In spite of wishing and wanting”, “Inasmuch as life is borrowed” and “Blush” as a choreographic assistant.

Centered around dancer, choreographer Mayuko Aihara, ----University graduate and later a student at the Lavan Center in England, j.a.m. Dance Theatre was created in 2002. They have been performing in numerous places since. Keeping the beauty that one feels at every moment at the heart of their performances, they continuously strive to create pieces that erupt with the imagination of the moment, beginning with their audience. They performed “m/m”, “In The Silent Cloudless Nigh” and “Dummy People” as performances. Since 2005, they have been taking part in the “Take a Chance”.of Itami, AIHALL.

He started dancing as at her entrance into the university. After graduation, he moved to New York and studied Limon Technique from Alan Danielson. Coming back to Japan, he studied Alexander Technique from Koru Yoshino. In 1991, together with Misako Terada, he formed Dance Unit. He focuses on harmony generated in the smallest unit of human relationship representing the self and others, i.e. “Duo”, and creates works in search for new relations of human beings. In March 2002 he received the grand prix of the “First TORII AWARD”. In July 2002 he was given the “Toyota Choreography Award”. In 2004 he was granted as young special artist from Kyoto city.
