A-1 KO MUROBUSHI (Japan / Tokyo)

Receives a lot of attention as a rare dancer seeking the edge of the body in Butoh. Studied under Tatsumi HIJIKATA in ’69. Participated in the initiation of DAIRAKUDAKAN in ’72. Performed “Last Paradise – Gate Far Away” in Paris in ’78, which was a trigger for butoh to be recognized as Butoh of the world. From ’00 actively danced “Edge” series particularly in Europe and South America. In ’03, established Ko & Edge Co., released “Bibou no Aozora” which was highly acclaimed by many critics as a work to explore a new butoh. In ’06, performed “Quick Silver” in Venice Biennale. Is active as an teacher at Impulse Tanz (Vienna), Angers National Center of Contemporary Dance (CNDC), and others as well.

A-2 F KEITH THOMPSON (USA / N.Y.)

Keith THOMPSON captivates many people with unconstrained and dynamic movements underpinned by his physical gift. Breathtaking surprises and wit are embedded in his light and elastic movements generated by his low impact motion fine-tuned to the bone and muscle structure. He studied dance in the U.S. and various European cities, danced in Trisha Brown Dance Company (TBDC), a world-renown pioneer of releasing technique, for 10 years and served as rehearsal director. In 2006 he formed his own company “dance Tactics”. Still now he continuously offers workshops at TBDC, while being an excellent dance instructor active in many cities in the States and Europe.

B-1 F G NUNO BIZARRO (France/ Anger)

Nuno Bizarro (Lisbon,1964) begins his dance studies in Lisbon, mainly on contemporary and improvisation technics and has met since then and in different places, Marta Danoso, Charles Atlas, Simone Forti, Howard Sonnenklar, Steve Paxton, Lance Gries, Dieter Heitkamp, Mark Tompkins, Lisa Nelson. Since 1990 he takes part in several pieces of Jo„o Fiadeiro with whom he creates Re.Al and the LABs- an informal showcase of multidisciplinary events. Later he works in different dance pieces of Vera Mantero. In Belgium, Germany and France, where he lives now, he joins the work of Xavier Le Roy, Boris Charmatz, Christine De Smedt, Meg Stuart, Jennifer Lacey, Mathilde Monnier, Rachid Ouramdane, Heritier. He creats Revolver with Isabelle Schad. He colaborates in different pieces and projects of Emmanuelle Huynh.

B-2 C-1 F JUNG YOUNG-DOO (Korea/Seoul)

Young-Doo`s dance incorporates the beautifully powerful dance method and concept of the east, with the intricate and detailed movements of the west. Founder of Doo Dance Theater, Young –Doo has based himself in Korea, while actively performing worldwide. In 2004 he burst onto the Asian dance scene at the Little Asia Network. His accomplishments abroad include `Yokohama Dance Collection, Solo and Duo Competition` winner, received the `French National Distinction Award` and subsequently began studying at the Toluse Choreograph Center. Young-Doo is a choreographer who is currently driving the creative dance scene in Korea. He visited Japan often for Aoyama Dance Biennale (Tokyo) in ’06, Asia Contemporary Dance Now!(Fukuoka) in ’08, and etc.

C-3 F LISA NELSON (USA)

Lisa Nelson is a dance-maker, improvisational performer, videographer, and collaborative artist who has been exploring the role of the senses in the performance and observation of movement since the early '70s. Stemming from her work with video and dance in the '70s, she developed an approach to spontaneous composition and performance she calls Tuning Scores. She maintains long-term collaborations with other artists, including Steve Paxton, Daniel Lepkoff, and Image Lab--a Tuning Score performance ensemble. She received a NY "Bessie" Dance and Performance award in 1987 and an Alpert Award in the Arts in 2002. She was co-editor of Contact Quarterly international dance and improvisation journal for 30 years and lives in Vermont in the US.

C-2 F ERIC LAMOUREUX (France/Caen)

Art Director of the Centre National de Dance Contemporaire at Caen. Presides over, with his partner Héla FATTOUMI, the Compagnie-FATTOUMI-LAMOUREUX, which enjoys a high reputation as a symbol of the dance of the ‘90’s. In ’90, "HUSAIS" was awarded with a prize in the “Concourt international de Bagnolet”. Since then, the company has released one new piece after another, been invited to the Avignon Theater Festival, the Lyon Biennale and others, performed very widely throughout Europe, Africa and America. In ’94, it gave a workshop to the Batsheva Dance Company in Israel. In ’99, Eric LAMOUREUX stayed at Villa KUJOYAMA as an artist sent by the French Government. In ’04, he created a piece for young dancers in the coaching project organized at Kyoto Art Center. Since ’04, he has been Director of the Centre National de Dance Contemporaire at Caen. Héla FATTOUMI also will come to Kyoto to select the dancers who will perform in their new international creation among France, Congo and Japan.

D-1 D-2 F YUKO MORI (Japan/Kyoto)

Yuko MORI is a dancer and choreographer. From 1993 to 1998 she joined MATOMA France-Japon, performing at many international stages including Festival d’Avignon. Currently, as a member of Monochrome Circus, she takes part in its tours both at home and abroad and offers a number of workshops on Contact Improvisation and on “consciousness of the body”. She always hopes to convey the fundamental “pleasure” of dancing.

D-3 D-4 F IÑAKI AZPILLAGA (Bergium/Brussel)

There’s no way to resist the impulse to move in his enormous energetic class. Azpillaga’s background in dance studies covers Basque folk, Classic ballet, Jazz, Modern and Contemporary dance. His experiences as a professional dancer in prestigious dance companies include Ultima Vez/W. Vandekeybus, Mathilde Monnier, Bocanada Danza, National Ballet Company of Spain. Based in Brussels serving as a choreographic assistant for Vandekeybus, he also teaches lessons for Ultima Vez, Need Co., Charlesroi/Danses, as well as leading workshops around Europe. He has worked on creations of Vandekeybus, “In spite of wishing and wanting”, “Inasmuch as life is borrowed” and “Blush” as a choreographic assistant.

G KOSEI SAKAMOTO (Japan/Kyoto)

Kosei SAKAMOYO heads up Monochrome Circus. He puts a great deal of effort in the performances of all seven pieces of “A Collection of Short Dance Pieces” at home and overseas. He is also active in collaborations such as “Refined Colors” and “Lost” with Takayuki FUJIMOTO of dumb type and “wash” with Shinta INOUE. In 2009 he co-produces with local dancers an orienteering-type dance performance “Discover Dancers!!” at Mixed Bathing World of Beppu Contemporary Art Festival 2009. He was chosen a winner of the Kyoto-city Art and Culture Special Incentive Award in the fiscal year 2001, and received the Kyoto-city New Artist Prize in the fiscal year 2007. He is a part-time lecturer at Kinki University. He disguises himself as “Uncle Pajamas” during the “Hot Summer in Kyoto”.

G j.a.m.Dance Theatre (Japan /Osaka)

Centered around dancer, choreographer Mayuko Aihara, ----University graduate and later a student at the Lavan Center in England, j.a.m. Dance Theatre was created in 2002. They have been performing in numerous places since. Keeping the beauty that one feels at every moment at the heart of their performances, they continuously strive to create pieces that erupt with the imagination of the moment, beginning with their audience. They performed “m/m”, “In The Silent Cloudless Nigh” and “Dummy People” as performances. Since 2005, they have been taking part in the “Take a Chance”.of Itami, AIHALL.

E-1 F TOMMI KITTI (Finland / Helsinki)

Tommi KITTI is a choreographer representing the Finnish contemporary dance world. He has danced with the Cullberg Ballet led by Mats EK, the Helsinki City Theatre Dance Company, the Finnish National Ballet and others. As choreographer, he has created more than 40 pieces. He was awarded at the Bagnolet Choreographer Competition in 2000, and established Tommi Kitti & Co. in the same year. He mesmerizes so many audiences throughout the world.

E-1 TAKAYUKI FUJIMOTO (Japan / Kyoto)

Takayuki FUJIMOTO is an internationally active lighting artist with dumb type as his home base. After “S/N” of dumb type, he has been mainly in charge of lighting design/operation and technical management. In 2004 he created a collaboration work of “Refined Colors” with Monochrome Circus, which has been repeatedly performed in Japan, Asia and Europe. He joined a world tour of “Drought and Rain Vol.2” of Ea SOLA, choreographer based in France, as lighting technician. In 2007 he created “true” with Tsuyoshi SHIRAI and others and plans its tours in Tokyo and Europe in 2009.

E-2 NAOTO IINA (Japan / Tokyo)

Naoto IINA is Director of Dance and Media Japan. He seeks fusion of dances and digital technologies, and offers workshops, lectures and performances in the genre of media performance. He has engaged in “Post Theater”, a media performance unit based in Berlin, “GAGA/JAPAN” which promotes “GAGA”, a method created by Ohad NAHARIN (director of Batsheva Dance Company), “MAMUSKA Tokyo”, “International Dance Video Festival”, and others. He participated in “DANCE x MUSIC” organized by JCDN as auteur. He is part-time lecturer at Tokyo Zokei University and Nagoya University of Arts.

A club to research different ways of enjoying dances. One of its research subjects is the Dance Club of the Matsuyama University, and on its web magazine “Log Osaka” it writes about dances you can experience in the Kyoto, Osaka and Kobe area. It will set up a new Web site this spring.
